John's Story

John Vincent is a 62 year old Maintenance Engineer whose wife Jenny died of cancer in 1999. He has no musical background and has had no musical training; and until October 2012 had never sung in front of anyone before. He just sings as he works. This is his story.

John had been married to Jenny for 20 years and they had two lovely boys, sadly in 1997 Jenny developed cancer and died in 1999. John kept the family going and the boys are a credit to him. Happily he is now in another relationship.

In late 2012 while working for a friend who happens to be a music teacher, John mentioned that he had written a song when he was just 8 years old. She looked at it, wrote the music (after John had hummed it to her) and suggested that he might like to record it one day.

A month later while having dinner with friends the hostess mentioned that her son owned a recording studio in Eastbourne. John contacted said studio and recorded his childhood song. When he had finished there was some studio time left so the sound engineers asked whether there were any songs that John may like to cover and record. He immediately thought of the Cliff Richard songs Miss You Nights and The Next Time as they were favourites of both his and Jenny’s. Tom the studio owner said “go for it” so he did and the resulting CD was produced in memory of his late wife.

On his way back from the studio John had the idea that these two songs would be ideal for generating possible funds for Cancer Research UK. So he popped in to see a friend who runs the Heathfield and Horam Group of Friends for CRUK in East Sussex to ask if they might be interested.

The answer was a resounding yes ……Everyone who has heard the CD and especially if they know John and even more so if they knew Jenny has been much moved. Cancer Research UK has wholly endorsed the CD and has asked John to sing live at their various events in 2013.

As John says; the night time is when you do your deepest thinking about those that are no longer here so Miss You Nights seems to sum up every emotion that someone experiences when they have lost a loved one.

Everyone in the production of this CD has been touched by John’s kindness and sincerity. He has relinquished all rights to the CD so that all profits from the it go to Cancer Research UK. As a result the fantastic studio, photographer and printers have given there time and expertise freely or very heavily discounted.
Hopefully this CD will be the first of many raising much needed funds.
Thank you all.
